Our founder, Dr. Burl Randolph, Jr., DM, Colonel, US Army (Retired), is an Amazon best-selling author with a large imagination.

He's renowned for his insightful leadership and management wisdom. Drawing from a distinguished military career, his three acclaimed books offer practical strategies for success in leadership and in life. Colonel Randolph began writing books during his third year of doctoral studies because he was writing daily anyway. He honed his skills during the COVID-19 pandemic, taking online classes and seminars on editing, publishing, and promoting books.

And, as a former architecture major, this interest caused him to further develop his graphic art skills. Dr. Burl is also an accomplished editor, with over 10 books to his credit in various genres, ranging from a graphic depiction of the Bible to military leadership to poetry books.

An Author as the Subject

Authors can occasionally become the subject of a story, article, or book. In this case, I was interviewed by International Business Times about my 10 years in business, by Business Insider about my latest book, The Iraq I Knew, and the next installment in the series, The Search for WMD. Recently, I was interviewed again by IBT about military service. I believe all three interviewers captured the essence of what I was attempting to convey: There is life after nearly 32 years in the military, but serving was a wonderful opportunity. I hope you enjoy reading all three articles.

The Iraq I Knew... From Saddam Hussein to Weapons of Mass Destruction to Al Qaeda in Iraq, Book I: Into the Storm

Travel with Colonel Randolph, U.S. Army (Retired), as he provides a first-hand account of what war was really like. In Book I: Into the Storm, he explains what war looked like as a young, newly promoted U.S. Army Captain. The massive undertaking he and his fellow Soldiers executed set the groundwork for modern warfare. The book features several photos that help the reader visualize the equipment and tools used in 1990, when the internet, the World Wide Web, email, and social media did not exist. Take a look behind the scenes at what is not reported by leaders or the media.

The Iraq I Knew is especially and highly recommended for general-interest libraries, as well as military-oriented collections.

Discussion groups, whether consisting of vets or civilians, will find it holds many insights and much material for debate and discussion. With its potential to prove eye-opening and educational to military people, their families, and civilians alike, The Iraq I Knew transcends any identification as a military autobiography, a story of PTSD, or an exploration of Iraq’s many faces alone.” Diane Donovan, Editor

Red Headed Book Lover

"As The Iraq I Knew is one of the most incredible memoirs I have ever read, I have no choice but to award this incredible book a dazzling five stars as it truly deserves it!"
"The Iraq I Knew: From Saddam Hussein to Weapons of Mass Destruction to Al Qaeda in Iraq is a moving, poignant, and thought-provoking military memoir courtesy of the author Colonel Burl Randolph, Jr., who shares his journey. The journey the reader is taken on is an emotional, sometimes upsetting one, but an important story above all that will move and touch its readers from start to finish." -
Aimee Ann, Red Headed Book Lover

The Book Review Directory

"The Iraq I Knew is a compelling, profound read on recent military history. With his firsthand experience, Randolph brings a unique perspective to many Americans on what war is really like. For lovers of military history and memoir, The Iraq I Knew is a solid addition to their library."

"We can watch documentaries or even fictionalized movies and TV series about war, but none of those are the same as actually living through the experience. Randolph’s memoir cuts no corners and is brutally honest as he shares gritty details of his whole acquaintance with the events that unfolded between the summer of 1990 and the spring of 1991."

Readers' Favorite

“Overall, The Iraq I Knew is a powerful, firsthand account that underscores the complexity and dedication involved in military service. I’d certainly recommend it for fans of wartime memoirs.

Author Colonel Burl Randolph Jr. offers a compelling insight into the life of a US Army Field Artillery Captain and a truly engaging, raw portrayal of what it’s like to experience extreme hardships in the name of duty. The book not only deepened my understanding of contemporary military history but also fostered a greater appreciation for the personal sacrifices made by military personnel.”
