Who Do You Trust?
Trust is a frequent topic in many organizations.
Who do you trust? Once we leave home for the cold, cruel world, we must establish non-familial relationships and, at some point, learn to depend on others. Merriam-Webster defined trust as “assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something” (Trust, 2018). Assured is the keyword in the definition, which means certainty or security.
‘What makes veterans different?
The resounding answer is the same:
“Our implicit trust is because we share a bond that cannot be broken.
What bonds do you share with others that create our belief in them? Culture may define the bonds or binding agreements in an organization. “The things that groups share or hold in common” is how Schein (1992) defined culture.
What things does your organization or group share? Are there commonalities among the people in the organization? In general, what do you share or have in common with others?
Many people believe that trust is inherent within the values of an organization or between people, which is often not the case. To not get burned, trust must be learned and earned.
