The Value of REBOOT Recovery
“Value is in the eye of the beholder.”
The assessment of value is akin to that of beauty: it is within the purview of the evaluator. Fortunately, we have research studies that gather insights from multiple people. The graphic below outlines the results of the 2023 REBOOT Recovery Outcomes Overview study.
The Type of Study and Demographics
At first glance, we know this was a quantitative study based on having 153 participants. The demographics are at the bottom of the graphic and indicate that 75 percent of the participants were women, which tracks with trends showing women are twice to three times as likely to seek treatment as men. The demographics further indicate that the Trauma REBOOT participants were by far the predominant group who answered the survey. Because the participation percentages for combat and first responders are so low, it would be unfair to infer the reasons why. While demographic information is always important, the greatest value is in the data provided in the primary categories.
Participant Satisfaction
Based on the results from five of six questions, graduates were extremely satisfied with REBOOT, especially in the categories of feeling welcomed, respect for faith/spirituality, recommending REBOOT to a friend, and overall satisfaction with the REBOOT experience. Staying involved with REBOOT after graduation scored somewhat lower, with less than 50 percent desirability to train to become a course leader. For REBOOT Recovery of the Quad Cities, these percentages hold true, with participation after graduation growing. Our program has a significant number of participants in follow-on classes, some of whom also make monetary donations, and many of whom provide referrals. These relationships are like because of the improvement in quality of life.
Quality of Life Improvements
Most people attend REBOOT to improve their quality of life through trauma healing. Of the eight areas evaluated, anxiety, depression, and fatigue showed the greatest improvement, with an average of nearly 23 percent. Self-efficacy, esteem, well-being, and flourishing scored the next highest, with an average improvement of 13 percent.
In REBOOT Recovery of the Quad Cities, 50 percent of our course participants are veterans, 25 percent are first responders, and the remainder are from all walks of life. Participants arrive in pain and graduate changed, with the tools to begin a better life. We have taught over 10 trauma, military, and advanced REBOOT courses and offer first responder and trauma español courses. REBOOT Recovery adds value to the lives of those who complete the course, their families, and the communities they live in.
