SOLD OUT!!! The Tale of Three Titles

SOLD OUT!!!, are two words that every author likes to hear, followed by, “We need more copies!”

When I saw the email subject, “Your Books at The Brewed Book,” I became quite curious. The owner of The Brewed Book, Tony Fuhs rarely had reason to reach out to me about my books since both copies of Inspired, Not Retired: Leadership Lessons from Father to Son were sold on the same day, two years after being stocked. The second restock occurred in May 2025 and included the first deliveries of Can God Trust You with Trouble? and The Iraq I Knew… From Saddam Hussein to Weapons of Mass Destruction to Al Qaeda in Iraq. It is common for books by local authors to take months or years to sell, but not this time.

The Proud Moment

Although opening the email seemed routine, the contents were not:

“Dr. Burl,
We are happy to let you know that all of your books that we had have sold. If you get a chance please stop by and allow us to restock.”

I read the message twice, then three times. While it is not uncommon to eventually sell out of one title, I have never sold out of all three. With this unexpected success, The Brewed Book now carries The Inspired, Not Retired Workbook: A Guide to Developing Your Leadership Lessons, as well as hardcover copies of Inspired, Not Retired and Can God Trust You with Trouble?

For those who are unaware, The Brewed Book is a used bookstore, but it has an entire section dedicated to books by local authors. They also have a wonderful coffee shop with all types of tasty beverages and delectable bakery items. The Peanut Butter and Jelly Brownie is delicious!
